Your NHS Right to Choose

You have the legal right to ask your GP to be referred to a provider of your choice, as long as they supply a service to the NHS somewhere in England. You can find out more about Right to Choose below and find GP referral forms.

Important Information About Waiting Times

  • At Care ADHD we’re proud that it’ll be a matter of weeks, rather than years, before you start your care. Due to a surge in demand in 2025, it’s currently taking around 8-12 weeks to process your referral before we get in touch to begin your journey with pre-assessment forms.

We’ve recently recruited more staff to process referrals, meaning the waiting times will be coming back down very soon. Once you get your forms, they can take as little as 1-2 hours to complete. We then have plenty of clinics available so the wait from the point you submit your forms is usually very short.

  • Unfortunately, we currently have no way of automating acknowledgements to patients to let you know we’ve received your referral, but we do confirm receipt with your GPs who can confirm it’s been sent.

Thank you for your patience, please rest assured we’re working really hard to get to you as soon as we can.

You have the legal right to ask your GP to be referred to a provider of your choice as long as they supply a service to the NHS somewhere in England.

For ADHD this is particularly important because we know that the long waiting times for local services can put people off seeking help, and many people are happy to have video consultations with a specialist based anywhere in the country.

Right to Choose within mental health is a relatively new option (since 2018) and as such, not all patients, GPs or other clinicians are aware of it and how it works.
