Your NHS Right to Choose

You have the legal right to ask your GP to be referred to a provider of your choice, as long as they supply a service to the NHS somewhere in England. You can find out more about Right to Choose below and find GP referral forms.

Important Information About Waiting Times

  • At Care ADHD, we’re proud that your journey will begin in weeks, not years. Among the top five reputable NHS-accredited providers of ADHD treatment, we believe we have the lowest average waiting times by some distance.

As of 31 July 2025, our data shows that for people referred in the last 90 days, the average time from referral to assessment is around 62 days (~9 weeks). This is an average, not a guarantee, and individual experiences may vary depending on several factors, including demand, capacity, and how quickly forms are completed.

We know that some people referred earlier in the year (Feb–May) waited longer - up to 16–18 weeks due to a surge in demand that temporarily exceeded our clinical capacity. Since then, our team has worked incredibly hard to expand our services, and waiting times are now falling rapidly.

Right now, it’s taking about 3–4 weeks to process new referrals before we send out your pre-assessment forms, a major improvement from the 12-week delay earlier this year. We’re aiming to eliminate this delay completely by September.

Once you receive your forms, you can complete them at your own pace. Most people take 1–2 hours in total, often spread across a few days.

After your forms are submitted, our bookings team will typically be in touch within 4–6 weeks to offer you the earliest available assessment slot.

For those who receive a diagnosis and choose to start ADHD medication, the current average wait to begin titration is 4-6 weeks from the date of diagnosis. Again, we acknowledge that this might have been longer for people referred earlier in the year.

We’re constantly working to improve. Our clinical and admin capacity is expanding every month, and we’ll keep this page updated whether waiting times go up or down as part of our commitment to being open and transparent.

  • Unfortunately, we currently have no way of automating acknowledgements to patients to let you know we’ve received your referral but we do confirm receipt with your GPs who can confirm it’s been sent.

Thank you for your patience, please rest assured we’re working really hard to get to you as soon as we can - you should hear from us within around a month of the GP making the referral, and hopefully sooner than that.

You have the legal right to ask your GP to be referred to a provider of your choice as long as they supply a service to the NHS somewhere in England.

For ADHD this is particularly important because we know that the long waiting times for local services can put people off seeking help, and many people are happy to have video consultations with a specialist based anywhere in the country.

Right to Choose within mental health is a relatively new option (since 2018) and as such, not all patients, GPs or other clinicians are aware of it and how it works.
